Nine years ago, I promised to be a straight talking, hardworking MP for Bristol South. I said I would give local people a voice, and fight for the issues that matter to them.
It is a privilege that people have put their trust in me again to continue in that service. Thank you to those who supported me at this election. It is a huge responsibility, and I never take it lightly.

As I said in my acceptance speech, this is a special result for Bristol South. People here have sought a Labour government in every election since 1935, but have so frequently been disappointed. I’m delighted that after 14 years in opposition, I have been elected as part of Labour government to deliver the change our country needs.
Whether you voted for me or not, I promise to put my all into fighting for you here and in Parliament. Together with the Labour government, we can deliver a better future for Bristol South.
