The new term is now underway in schools and colleges across south Bristol. After a well-earned summer break, I’d like to personally welcome back students and teachers for the coming year.
Many young people locally will be moving onto the next step in their education or training, having received exam or qualification results in the summer, and I wish them all the best of luck. While I know not everyone will have received the results they were hoping for, it’s important to remember there are many different options available to students who want to continue with their learning.
Since becoming an MP, I’ve made improving education and training in Bristol South a priority. With Labour now in government, I hope this September will mark a fresh start for students and teachers locally. My colleagues in the Department of Education have made clear their commitment to resetting the relationship with the education workforce, supporting hardworking teachers to deliver the best education possible.
I look forward to meeting with school leaders in the Autumn, as I do every year, to discuss the challenges facing education in south Bristol and hear about their plans for the coming year.
